Treatment Alternatives and Diversion
Horizontal Line

The Treatment Alternatives and Diversion (TAD) Grant Program provides funding to develop and implement alternatives to incarceration for non-violent offenders with drug or alcohol problems. Counties receiving TAD funds form stakeholder oversight committees to develop comprehensive and holistic approaches for treating eligible offenders.

In addition to administering program funds, OJA is responsible for program evaluation. An advisory group of local and state agency representatives has assisted OJA in developing program guidelines and evaluation criteria.

In September 2006, OJA Executive Director Dave Steingraber, Department of Corrections Secretary Matt Frank and former Secretary of the Department of Health and Family Services Helene Nelson awarded TAD grants to local officials receiving the funds.

Visit our media room to view the September 18 press release announcing $616,000 in TAD funds to Dane, Rock, Wood and Washburn and Burnett counties.  On September 26, Secretary Frank announced over $400,000 in TAD funds to Milwaukee and Washington counties (press release).

Additionally, in July, 2008, OJA profiled the early success of Rock County's TAD program.  You can read about how Rock County is helping to reduce corrections cost and get offenders back on track in the July column: Measuring Success in Human Lives and Dollars and Cents
